Desperately searching for something original to include in my HNC Graded Unit, I discovered the art of Japanese Fish Painting or Gyotaku to give it its proper title. These prints were done on cotton with an overlay of cotton organza, I added a little simple stitch work. I was so happy with the results that now I'm hooked (no pun intended...).
This is a design I did for a commission at college. My inspiration was water. It's more theatrical than fashion but I was really pleased with the result.
I had a lovely conversation with Ann from 't ann cake' last week, I was interested to hear that she used to travel around the country in her old job and stopped at so many tea shops for refreshment that she decided to open her own place. Ann specialises in home baking and fresh lemonade as well as delicious tea's and coffee's. This is a wonderful quirky establishment in the growing Arty section of Dundee and I'll defiantly be visiting again.
Scratch the Surface will be a visual diary of the amazing changes that have started to transform not only the City of Dundee but also Dundee's reputation as a place known for Jute, Jam and Journalism but nothing else....... This is an exciting time for the City..... we have bustling multi cultural communities, lively night life featuring local bands as well as big name headliners, universities and an enviable Art school. With the arrival of the V&A Dundee will once more be seen as the place to be. Fashion, Design, Music and Socialising are more and more evident on the streets and it's this new Dundee style that i'm going to photograph and document.
